Court Clerk Position

Job Title:  Court Clerk

Job Description:  Under supervision of the City Manager and Municipal Judge, the Court Clerk coordinates all municipal court activities. Perform complicated administrative duties and clerical functions with accuracy and discretion.  Displays good decision making abilities, prepares court dockets and cases for court, process citations, responds to informational requests, collect fines and fees, and balances cash.  Maintains warrants database, serves as the courtroom clerk, interfaces courteously and effectively with tact and diplomacy to handle irate customers in a professional manner.  Prepares records for storage.  Compiles a wide variety of court documents including citations, warrants, summons, letters, reports and complaints. Assists with other business office duties including billing, collections, customer payments and reports as needed.  Performs other duties as assigned.

Required 5 days/40 hours a week.

Job Requirements:  A high School Diploma or GED and a valid Texas Driver’s License are required.   Must be bondable.  Must be able to pass a background check.

 The successful candidate for the Court Clerk for the City of Madisonville should be self-motivated; have an appreciation for accuracy, customer service, and detail; and be able to work independently.  Must have the ability use the computer, read, review and research records, and make clear and concise reports. Exercise judgment and discretion in releasing information.  Correctly interpret and apply the laws, codes, policies and procedures related to processing of court documents.  Perform basic mathematical calculations and work cooperatively with other departments, City Officials and outside agencies.

Must be able to accurately type, proficiency in both oral and written communication, and the ability to learn and operate the court software program.   Must maintain necessary certifications.

Ability to lift/carry twenty-five (25) pounds of material; bending, stooping and reaching as needed to file; sitting stationary for extended periods of time.
