The City of Madisonville, Texas, is seeking a new  Chief of Police. Madisonville with approximately 4.396 residents, is halfway between Houston and Dallas and 35 miles from Bryan/College Station and the home of the Texas A&M University.

The Chief of Police is appointed by, and reports directly to, the City Manager and is an officer of the City. The chosen appointee must be confirmed by the City Council. The City has more than 38 full-time and 1 part-time employees and a FY 2014-2015 budget of 6.1 million dollars.

The Madisonville Police Department operates with an FY2014-2014 annual budget of 1.1 million and employs eleven (11) sworn officers, one (1) animal control officer, and one (1) administrative assistant/dispatcher. The Chief of Police is responsible for administrative oversight, management of Animal Services and Code Enforcement.

Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice Administration or Business Administration is required, Master's degree preferred. A minimum of ten (ten) years of Law Enforcement experience with progressive responsibilities in directing and managing police personnel. Must be able to communicate with staff, the public, City Council, the press and other agencies. The Chief of Police must be a resident of the City of Madisonville or Madison County.

Possession of TCLEOSE advanced Certification and current NIMS trainings and certifications desired. Must possess a valid Texas Driver's License, and pass the annual firearms proficiency test. Must have experience and knowledge in local, state and federal laws that includes experience in budget preparation and administration.

Salary depends on experience and knowledge of Law Enforcement. Benefits include medical, dental, vision, life, sick leave, paid holidays, vacation and retirement through TMRS.

Position Description: The City of Madisonville is accepting applications of the position of Code Enforcement/Building Official. A College Degree in a related field or experience in Code Enforcement is preferred (not mandatory). A High School Diploma or GED and a valid Texas Driver’s License is required . Must be able to obtain Code Enforcement License within one year.

Duties Include: Review applications for building, plumbing, gas, electrical and mechanical permits, counseling with applicants to ensure proposed work will meet requirements and issuing such permits; serve as Staff Liaison to the Planning and Zoning Commission and Zoning Board of Adjustments, publish required notices and maintain records pertaining thereto and enforcing zoning ordinances; serve as Flood Plain Administrator for the National Flood Insurance Program in Madisonville; inspect on-Site facilities, installation of manufactured housing and HUD built homes, enforcing state regulations relating thereto;

responsible for the enforcement of housing and property maintenance codes; determines substandard structures and follows established procedures to have building brought up to code or demolished; Locates weed lots, junk vehicles, garbage, zoning and other code/ordinance violations; make and maintain simple records on the above activities, keep simple records of permits issued and inspections made, and submitting require reports to the City, State and Federal entities; assist in the subdivision review and approval process; communicates with the public, answers questions and gives out requested information related to the job; work 5 days/40 hours per week but may be required to work weekends and nights occasionally; performs other duties as assigned.

Salary commensurate with education and qualifications. City paid health, dental & vision, retirement, paid vacation, sick and holiday leave.
