The City of Madisonville, Texas, is seeking a new  Chief of Police. Madisonville with approximately 4.396 residents, is halfway between Houston and Dallas and 35 miles from Bryan/College Station and the home of the Texas A&M University.

The Chief of Police is appointed by, and reports directly to, the City Manager and is an officer of the City. The chosen appointee must be confirmed by the City Council. The City has more than 38 full-time and 1 part-time employees and a FY 2014-2015 budget of 6.1 million dollars.

The Madisonville Police Department operates with an FY2014-2014 annual budget of 1.1 million and employs eleven (11) sworn officers, one (1) animal control officer, and one (1) administrative assistant/dispatcher. The Chief of Police is responsible for administrative oversight, management of Animal Services and Code Enforcement.

Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice Administration or Business Administration is required, Master's degree preferred. A minimum of ten (ten) years of Law Enforcement experience with progressive responsibilities in directing and managing police personnel. Must be able to communicate with staff, the public, City Council, the press and other agencies. The Chief of Police must be a resident of the City of Madisonville or Madison County.

Possession of TCLEOSE advanced Certification and current NIMS trainings and certifications desired. Must possess a valid Texas Driver's License, and pass the annual firearms proficiency test. Must have experience and knowledge in local, state and federal laws that includes experience in budget preparation and administration.

Salary depends on experience and knowledge of Law Enforcement. Benefits include medical, dental, vision, life, sick leave, paid holidays, vacation and retirement through TMRS.

Job Title:  Water & Sewer Utility Maintenance

Under supervision of the Director of Water/Sewer Department, Water and Sewer Utility Maintenance personnel installation and repair of water distribution and wastewater collection system; and does related work as required.

Must work effectively with other employees to assist with utility repair and handle back-up duties of Meter Reading.  Will repair or replace water or sewer service lines and water or sewer mains.  Personnel make water and sewer taps, install or repair fire hydrants, unstop sewer lines, install clean-outs, set up barricades when needed to protect employees or the public, perform routine maintenance on vehicles, tools and equipment.

Must be able to read and understand and follow written and oral directions, write reports by hand, and use good judgement to work safely and use equipment properly.  Must be able to hear clearly when working around equipment or in street traffic.  Using proper safety precautions may need to life up to 100 pounds and pull, push or drag up to 150 pounds of street equipment.  Must be able to climb, crawl, kneel, squat, stoop and bend; sit for long periods of time while operating equipment; hear clearly.  Personnel will work outside in extreme weather conditions.  Exposure to fumes, dust and loud noises.  Performs other duties as assigned.  May assist the street department.

Required 5 days/40 hours a week.  Subject to after hour calls for emergency situations on weekends and nights.

Job Requirements:  One year related field or experience preferred but not mandatory.  Must possess an aptitude to make minor repairs and adjustments to equipment in the field.  Willing to attain a D Water License within one year.  A high school diploma or GED and a valid Texas Driver’s License Class C are required.

The successful candidate for the Water and Sewer Utility position for the City of Madisonville should be self-motivated; have an appreciation for accuracy, efficiency and safety; and be able to work independently while following written and oral direction.
